Benjamin Becker is currently a Full Professor of Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience at the University of Hong Kong. He received his Master and PhD Degrees at the Universities of Trier and Duesseldorf in Germany. Following post-doctoral research at the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Bonn he lead a group as high-level foreign expert awarded Professor at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. His research aims at determining the dynamic behavioral and neural mechanisms of emotional experiences, how these mechanisms become dysregulated in stress-related disorders and can be target by novel neuromodulatory strategies. His team capitalizes on advanced neuroimaging in combination with machine learning based neural decoding and computational modeling as well as neuromodulation, including real-time fMRI neurofeedback and neuropeptide agents. The corresponding findings have been documented in over 230 scientific publications, including publications in Nature Communications, Advanced Science, Trends in Cognitive Sciences, Molecular Psychiatry , etc. He serves as active editorial board member of several journals including Psychopharmacology and Psychoradiology and was founding section chief editor of Frontiers in Social and Affective Neuroimaging and co-lead of the COVID-induced brain dysfunctions initiative of the Global Brain Consortium.
